Who is the sender?

You choose the sender for each SMS.
  • The reply numberThe default. Recipients can reply.
  • A sender nameYour company name, for example. Recipients cannot reply.
  • Your own numberA number that is yours alone. Recipients can reply.

How much fits in one SMS?

You pay per SMS unit.
  • One unit holds 160 characters. Æ, Ø and Å count as ordinary characters.
  • A longer text becomes several units, but arrives as one message.
  • With an emoji, fewer characters fit in each unit.

Questions about SMS

How many characters fit in an SMS?

One SMS unit holds 160 characters. Longer texts are split into units of 153 characters, and each unit costs NOK 0.75. With an emoji, a unit holds 70 characters, and 67 when the text is split. An SMS can be up to 1,071 characters long.

Do Æ, Ø and Å take more room?

No. Æ, Ø and Å are part of the SMS alphabet and take as much room as other letters. They are not allowed in a sender name, though.

Can the recipient reply?

Yes, when you send from the reply number or from your own number. The reply arrives in the inbox and as the event sms.received. When you send with a sender name, the recipient cannot reply.

Does a sender name need approval?

Yes. You apply in the dashboard and say what the name is for. The name must be 3 to 11 characters, without Æ, Ø and Å. If the name differs from your company name, you explain briefly why you may use it. The name works once we have approved it.

Can I cancel a scheduled SMS?

Yes, until it goes out. Its price is held on your balance meanwhile.

What if my balance cannot cover a campaign?

The whole campaign is priced before it starts. If your balance cannot cover all of it, none of the messages go.

What happens when someone answers STOP?

When the whole reply is STOPP, STOP or AVMELD, we record it at once. The profile cannot text that number again until it answers START, or until you open it again. You get the event sms.optedOut.

Can I text numbers outside Norway?

No. telkit sends SMS to Norwegian mobile numbers.

What happens when my balance is empty?

The send is refused, and nothing is sent or drawn. SMS that arrive while the balance is empty are held and delivered once you top up. You can also let your card top up the balance automatically.

Can I send marketing by SMS?

Yes, but you need the recipients' consent. When you apply for a sender name for marketing, you confirm that you have it. STOP works on every message from the profile.
